WINGED COMMANDOS

In the 1920s, the development of equipment allowing the parachuting of men and containers led to new tactics that enabled troop projections behind enemy lines. Consequently, the holding of landing and drop zones until being joined by allied reinforcements became critical for success, and required substantial equipment.

Thus, the glider proved to be an essential component for the transport of vehicles and artillery pieces into hostile territory. Among the various belligerents of World War II, the Americans will be the most inclined to use this new mode of transport for troops and various equipment.

This book details the establishment of the combat glider program, the design and manufacturing processes of gliders,
the pilot training program and the glider pilots participation in major operations during World War II.
